Our Challenge
Wilkinsburg faces an uphill battle. Income is far outstripped by expenditures, vacant properties sit empty and decaying, and many areas of basic upkeep and maintenance are barely met. Despite the hard work done by many to improve things, the Borough still struggles against local prejudices stemming from the past.
Meeting the Challenge
My platform is not one of concrete promises but one of philosophies - core tenets that describe how I will conduct myself.
While the work of our government has been hard-fought and in earnest for many decades, it's undeniable that the current thinking just isn't working. Wilkinsburg needs to be open to big, new ideas. No potential solution should be off the table for discussion; no potential partner kept from the table. We must find the balance between respecting our past and building our future, then fearlessly tread it.
To execute my job well I will have to listen - to the people, to the public servants of the borough, to subject matter experts. When confronted with a problem I am a tireless researcher, always looking to understand before I act. I will learn from the errors of our past to make better, more thoughtful decisions for our future.
Local governments are like many small businesses - short staffed, operating on legacy workflows using legacy technologies. Thousands of man-hours of work are wasted every year due to inefficient day to day operations. I hope to use my experience to work with all the dedicated employees of the borough to help identify and improve these areas, allowing them to more efficiently deliver services to the people of Wilkinsburg.
